Eco-Friendly Materials
One of the cornerstones of Manika Jewellery sustainability efforts lies in its choice of materials. Most of our products are made with natural materials, namely natural stones, combined with two types of metals, brass, and silver. Brass, a durable alloy of copper and zinc, serves as the primary material for our exquisite pieces. Brass is not only visually captivating, with its warm tones and intricate detailing, but it also boasts a lower environmental impact. The natural stones that we use come from various
regions throughout Indonesia. Some of the natural stones that we use are druzy, agate, pyrite, jasper, onyx, and tektite. Each of the materials we use is environmentally friendly and quality guaranteed. We also use recycled materials such as glass-like tosca glass, blue glass, black glass, and recycled magazine paper as the jewellery materials.
Responsible Sourcing and Empowerment
Beyond materials, Manika Jewellery has taken a proactive approach to sourcing. Collaborating with local artisans and small-scale metalworkers, we ensure that our supply chain adheres to fair labor practices and supports local communities. By shunning mass production in favor of skilled craftsmanship, we promote job creation and the preservation of traditional techniques and also appreciate the traditional artisans who have been working with us for a long time.

Bali, Indonesia, is well-known for its lush landscapes, rich cultural heritage, and vibrant artisanal community. Among this vivid environment, Manika Jewellery, a brass jewellery company in Bali, has emerged as a light of mindful manufacturing, combining traditional craftsmanship with sustainable practices. Here is how Manika Jewellery infuses intention, ethics, and environmental consciousness into every piece of its creations.
Balancing Innovation and Tradition
At the center of Manika Jewellery’s success lies the balance between preserving traditional craftsmanship and embracing modern innovation. Each piece of our collections are handcrafted by our skilled artisans who have been collaborating with us for more than two decades, as well as our commitment to honoring Bali’s artistic legacy. Mindful manufacturing doesn’t mean preceding innovation; rather, it involves a conscious selection of techniques that minimize waste, resource consumption, and environmental impact. Our approach is a harmonious fusion of heritage and progress, expressing the essence of Bali’s evolving artisanal scene.
Sourcing with Purpose
Central to mindful manufacturing is the responsible sourcing of materials. Manika Jewellery prioritizes the use of locally natural sources and ethically mined brass. By establishing strong relationships with suppliers who cling to ethical and sustainable practices, we ensure that their raw materials are extracted with the least possible ecological impact. Additionally, we emphasize the use of recycled and upcycled materials whenever possible. By repurposing existing resources, we contribute to reducing the demand for new materials and extend the lifespan of valuable resources, aligning with the principles of a circular economy.
Ethical Craftsmanship
Mindful manufacturing extends beyond the materials used, it embraces the artisans who breathe life into each creation. We place a deep emphasis on the well-being of our artisans, ensuring fair wages, safe working conditions, and opportunities for skill development. By nurturing a supportive and respectful environment, we empower artisans to pour their passion into crafting exceptional pieces.
Sustainable Production
Mindful manufacturing embraces sustainable production processes that minimize environmental footprints. We employ energy-efficient technologies and carefully manage waste to reduce our impact on the environment. Electricity efficiency, water usage, and waste disposal are carefully monitored, with a commitment to continuous improvement.
Minimal Electricity Use
We use electricity to carry out office operations and production. In office activities, electricity is used as a power source for lighting and other electronic devices, while in the production process, it’s used to power grinding machines and drilling machines. In electrical energy efficiency, we usually turn off lights and electrical devices when it’s not used. After working hours, we always ensure that all electrical appliances are being turned off.
Minimal Water Use
Water is one of the resources that we use in our daily activities, but the amount is relatively minimal. During 2021, we are recorded as using 120 m3 of water resources. We use these resources only for the daily needs of our employees and are not using them in production at all.
Waste Management
wooden crates are one of the wastes we generate from our operations which are initially used as packaging to ship our products. After they were no longer used, we donated them to one of our suppliers who still use firewood for their household needs. We also try to reuse the waste such as small pieces of stone into products that can be traded.
Through mindful manufacturing, we embody the transformative potential of aligning creativity with ethical and ecological responsibility. As consumers increasingly demand transparency and sustainability, Manika Jewellery demonstrates that it’s possible to create products that are not only beautiful but also meaningful. Mindful manufacturing isn’t just about crafting jewellery; it’s about crafting a future where beauty is ethically created and thoughtfully shared. Explore our exquisite collection, where each piece is a testament to the fusion of artistic expression, sustainable practices, and the enchanting spirit of Bali.

In the face of global environmental issues, the crucial task of reducing the ecological footprint of enterprises has gained the utmost importance. Here is how Manika Jewellery, a sustainable brass jewellery company embraces our responsibility to the local community and suppliers in Bali, Indonesia.
Honoring Cultural Heritage and the Community
We recognize that our roots are deeply connected with the local culture and community. Rather than merely being a business operating within the region, we aim to deeply embed ourselves within the local community. This involves a comprehensive strategy with multiple aspects:
• Cultural Preservation
Bali’s rich heritage is celebrated through the incorporation of traditional design elements in the jewellery pieces. This not only keeps cultural practices alive but also offers artisans a sense of pride in their work.
• Employment and Skill Development:
We recognize the importance of providing meaningful employment opportunities to local artisans. Offering fair wages and fostering an environment of growth and learning, empowers these artisans to preserve and share their traditional craft with the world.
• Community Engagement
Beyond business transactions, we engage in community initiatives. This includes providing health services in the form of vaccines and routine health check-ups; helping victims of the Mount Semeru disaster; and sharing our fortune with the surrounding community by supporting local events such as celebrating Christmas and Idul Adha by donating to buy a goat for the religious offerings.
We also took part in PUSPADI Bali programs including recent humanitarian activities related to Covid-19 by assisting with 3 boxes of Nuvo soap. And participates in helping people with disabilities to carry out fast-action activities by distributing necessities, especially for those in hard-to-reach areas.
Building a Sustainable Supply Chain
A responsible supply chain lies at the center of any sustainable business. For us, ensuring the well-being of our suppliers and minimizing our environmental footprint are non-negotiable goals:
• Reducing Environmental Impact
Environmental conservation is a key commitment. We employ eco-friendly production methods, such as recycling and upcycling materials, to minimize waste and reduce our carbon footprint.
• Ethical Sourcing and Suppliers Assessment
We are collaborating directly with local suppliers to make sure that the materials such as stone, brass, wood, and other natural resources we obtain are ethically and responsibly. We have several criteria regarding supplier selection. This involves selecting suppliers that adhere to fair labor practices and prioritize environmentally friendly processes. We also choose suppliers according to the types of goods desired by the market. We set this to facilitate the quality control process before delivering the products to the customers because the quality of the materials that we obtained is both our suppliers’ responsibility and our responsibility as their partner.
• Openness to Our Stakeholders
Openness is a hallmark of responsible business practices. We apply this principle to maintain our objectivity in conducting business. We do this through our efforts to provide relevant and material information to stakeholders. Disclosure of our information is easy to understand, access, and timely. We are also open to receiving any input from our customers. By maintaining open communication with our suppliers and customers, we build trust and ensure that the entire supply chain operates with integrity.
Empowering Local Communities Through Education
Recognizing that sustainability is a journey that requires collective effort, we take an educational approach to foster change:
• Workshops and Trainings for Our Artisan and Suppliers
We conduct workshops for our artisans, educating them about sustainable practices and the importance of their role in the larger movement toward a greener planet. We also provide training for the suppliers to increase production and simultaneously improve the product’s quality. To maintain the material’s quality, we help our suppliers’ business activities by providing coating machines and financial assistance to prepare the room to place the machine in their location. We strive to maintain relationships with the suppliers so that we can keep working with them in the long run. The training that we provide is not only for the company’s benefits but also for the safety and development of our employees and artisans.
Manika Jewellery serves as evidence that a harmonious coexistence between business, culture, and the environment is achievable. By embracing our sustainable brass jewellery company in responsibility to the local community and suppliers in Bali, Indonesia, we demonstrate that profitability need not come at the expense of people and the planet. Our commitments to preserving cultural heritage, building a responsible supply chain, and empowering local communities through education, demonstrate the profound impact of adopting sustainable business practices.
An extraordinary change is taking place within the brass jewellery industry in Bali, Indonesia. This transformation goes beyond just crafting exquisite pieces; it involves empowering local communities and adopting sustainable practices. This is how Manika Jewellery, a Bali-based sustainable brass jewelry company, combines empowerment and sustainability to make a beneficial contribution to both the local community and the environment.
Sustainability as a Guiding Principle
With Bali’s fragile ecosystem facing challenges from rapid development and tourism, we recognized the importance of sustainable practices to preserve the island’s natural beauty. From sourcing to production, we follow eco-conscious methods. We source locally whenever possible, using recycling and upcycling materials, contributing to a circular economy by reducing waste and minimizing the demand for new resources.
Responsible Sourcing and Empowerment
Beyond materials, Manika Jewellery has taken a proactive approach to sourcing. Collaborating with local artisans and small-scale metalworkers, we ensure that our supply chain adheres to fair labor practices and supports local communities. By shunning mass production in favor of skilled craftsmanship, we promote job creation and the preservation of traditional techniques and also appreciate the traditional artisans who have been collaborating with us for more than two decades.
Empowering Local Artisans and Communities
Manika Jewellery recognizes the value of the local skilled artisans and seeks to empower them through fair labor practices and collaboration. By working closely with local metalworkers and craftsmen, we not only ensure ethical production but also uplift communities, fostering sustainable economic growth.
Employee Management
Employees are one of our significant stakeholders. All of our achievements,
especially in the economic aspect, cannot be separated from the hard work of our employees. That is why we always strive to forge strong relationships with our employees to achieve a competitive advantage. It is challenging to ensure that all employees feel comfortable, happy, and satisfied while working with us. Therefore, we try to mobilize all capabilities to answer these challenges, such as providing incentives according to position, providing training to increase work productivity, upholding equality, respecting every employee’s rights, and refusing child labor by the fair trade certification. In maintaining employee motivation, we also continually strive to provide feedback for our
employees. For example, when one of our employees has a birthday, we hold a simple
celebration as a form of our efforts to embrace employees and establish family relationships within the company. In addition to the approach above, we also ensure that the health and safety of our employees are maintained by providing free routine health check-ups, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021. We invited several medical personnel intending to check the health of all the employees who work at the company to ensure their health conditions and to stop the spread of the virus Covid-19.
Empowering People with Disabilities
In recent years, there has been a growing recognition of the importance of empowering people with disabilities in the workforce. This shift in perspective is not just about meeting legal obligations or embracing diversity and inclusion; it’s a transformative movement that acknowledges the immense potential, unique talents, and valuable contributions that individuals with disabilities bring to the table.
As a member of Bedo (Business Export and Development Organizations), Manika Jewellery took part in one of its programs that aims to empower people with disabilities to enter the workforce, collaborating with Suarise Indonesia, and Difalink with their DOPE program.
Suarise Indonesia is a social entrepreneur that focuses on providing digital content writing training for visually impaired people to be a professional content writer, while the DOPE program is open to people with all types of disabilities, including visual, hearing, physical, mental disabilities, and people with invisible disabilities, such as autism and ADHD. Manika has successfully recruited a visually impaired content writer from Suarise as an intern twice in 2022-2023. Additionally, within the DOPE program, Manika expanded its inclusive hiring efforts by bringing on board one visually impaired content writer and an individual with ADHD as a graphic designer, both as interns for three months in 2022. Through this internship program, Manika Jewellery has given disabled people an opportunity to gain experience and build networks in the workforce.
In Bali, Indonesia, our sustainable brass jewelry company stands as a symbol of empowerment. We’ve witnessed local artisans harness their creativity and skills, crafting exquisite pieces that not only adorn individuals but also uplift communities. Our commitment to sustainable practices, fair wages, and ethical production empowers both our artisans and customers to make responsible choices. Together, we’re not just crafting jewelry; we’re crafting a brighter, sustainable future for Bali and beyond.
