Our History

In 2015, Irene Setiawati, founder of Manika Jewellery, launched this jewelry-based line of products in Indonesia Fashion Week to perpetuate the Maharani’s story.

Maharani in Indonesian which means “empress,” is the name of the company established in 1989 by Mr. Aseng, Irene’s father. Initially, Maharani worked in silver jewelry called Maharani Silver/ Maharani Actual Design (M.A.D), until it eventually developed into a craft business and change its name into Maharani Craft.

Since 29 October 2005, CV, Maharani has been a manufacturer and exporter of accessories, silver jewelry in ethnic and contemporary designs, which then crossed over to home, bringing creativity, fashion sense and exquisite techniques of jewelry that also characterize you at home.

Under Irene’s management, the company focuses on creating decorative interior elements made from shells, stones such as agate and petrified wood (fossil). And for the jewellery, Manika uses natural resources and gemstones from all around Indonesia such as crystal, pyrite, satam, charcoal, druzy, amethyst, quarts, amber, red garnet, pearl, wool (collaborating with Tie Knot) combine with brass and other materials upon request (gold and silver) to create products that are unique, exotic and have a higher selling value. The resulting style can be described as something “beautiful, subtle and mysterious.” All of Manika Jewellery collections are designed by a very talented in-house designer and handcrafted by a skilled craftsmen.

Inheriting Maharani Craft from her father, Irene cares about empowering and continuously improving the skills of her workforce and craftsmen. Her aim is to equip them with the tools they needed in order to build a sustainable business for the company long term.
